how to measure a fireplace
In order to determine what size logs best fits your fireplace, 4 measurements are helpful.

1. Measure the width of the fireplace at the front opening "A"
2. Measure the width at the back of the fireplace "B"
3. Measure the depth of the fireplace (front to back) "C"
4. Measure the height of the fireplace opening "D"


The log set should be a minimum 6" shorter than the opening width, preferably 8" to 10" shorter but ideally not more than 12" shorter.  For example if the opening width is 34" (and assuming the fire box does not taper too much) you could use a 27" set but a 24" log set is better since it would be the optimum 8" to 10" differential.

In some cases a smaller set would have to be used if the depth is short 14" for example and the taper is exaggerated making the back width only 18" wide.  In this case a 20” set may be necessary in order to fit the back of the fireplace.  To make things simple, bring the 4 measurements to us and we will assist you in finding the perfect size log set for your fireplace.

Check to see if the gas supply comes up through the floor of the firebox.  If so, make a note of where it comes up (how far from the front or back and how far from the side, left or right).  If the gas supply comes from the side, you don't have to worry about the location.

The fireplace depth (front to back) must be at least as deep as the numbers below to accommodate the various burner pan kits.  Again we can assist you with this if let us know the depth of the fireplace.
